Pete's Log: karaoke pete (almost)

Entry #1400, (Life in General)
(posted when I was 28 years old.)

So yesterday evening, Sara texted me asking if I had any plans, and I suddenly decided that I needed Ethiopian food. A little internet research led me to find the Blue Nile, which has two locations in Schwabing. One online review recommended reservations, which was a good idea, since the Münchener Freiheit location was already filled up. But we got a table at their other spot. It was pretty good.

Then we left looking for something to do, and somehow the topic of Karaoke had come up. I realized we were close to the Arc and knew that Toytown had a Friday night Karaoke tradition there. I made the mistake of mentioning this to Sara and suddenly we had to go. At the Arc we ran into several other Toytowners we knew. There was also a bachelorette party going on, so the place was crowded and happening.

I was positive I would not be singing, but Sara encouraged me to just drink more and then go up. Eventually the pressure got to me and I filled out a song request form, requesting Drive by Incubus. I handed it in and looked to be about sixth in line. But after five more songs, the woman running the event announced the final three performers of the night, none of whom were me. Sara was outraged and went and had words with the woman. It turned out that the disc that Drive was on was damaged or something. Sara had another request form and the woman had said she'd let me sing if I picked another song. So I picked Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash. Sara runs up with the form and returns to inform me that that disc is missing! Cruel fate.

So last night is the night that I almost performed Karaoke at a crowded bar. I actually left the bar disappointed that I hadn't. We stopped at a café on Leopoldstraße and had sodas. Then we missed the last U-Bahn by five minutes. So we walked from Münchener Freiheit to Stachus. Again. This time it only took us an hour, but that includes stops at a Burger King and a fountain on Marienplatz. Then I took a night tram/night bus combination home from there, though Sara's couch had sounded awfully tempting.
